Should you repair or buy new?
With manufacturers' improved business practices and the high cost of materials, the cost of a new motor versus a repaired motor continues to narrow. It is now generally excepted that failed motors 50Hp and less should be replaced with a new motor.
This chart shows that the cost to rewind a standard 1HP 1800 RPM TEFC motor is nearly 225% higher than the cost to purchase a new EPACT efficient motor. The cost of the rewind is at least 60% the cost of a new EPACT efficient motor up to 75 HP and at least 60% the cost of a new premium efficient motor up to 50HP.
