Here are the steps we recommend you take as you determine if you should replace your motors with NEMA premium efficient or EPACT efficient motors:
- Know what your company is paying for electricity
- See if your area has any efficiency incentive programs
- Determine the energy cost for each motor in your plant and the payback if you switch to a more efficient motor
- Determine if the ROI justifies replacing any motors immediately
- Develop a ROI-based decision tree that shows when a failed motor should be replaced by a premium efficient motor, replaced by an EPACT efficient motor, or sent out for repair
- Tag the motors in your plant with color-coded tags signifying the action to be taken when they fail
